Compounds 1 and 2 were hydrolysed in water solution in the presence of sodium carbonate to give the oxides (t-BuAsO)(n) (3) and (m-F3CC6H4AsO)(n) (4) respectively. The X-ray crystal structure of 4 shows the molecule to be cyclotetrameric with pyramidal arsenic.
