The ortho- and para-amino groups allow the phenyl group to inductively release greater electron density into the dipyrromethenes resulting in relatively strong intermolecular hydrogen-bonding with the terminal BF2 groups, whereas the meta-analog formed weaker hydrogen-bonds.
