The Department of Chemistry is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Tao Huan as an assistant professor in the area of Analytical Chemistry. Dr. Huan received his Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from University of Alberta with Dr. Liang Li and did postdoctoral work at the Scripps Research Institute with Dr. Gary Siuzdak. He will join the department in July 2018.
Dr. Huan has an outstanding research track record in the synergetic development of analytical and computational tools for metabolomics, a powerful and emerging technology to interrogate cellular biochemistry, perform disease diagnosis, and characterize biochemical mechanisms. At UBC, Dr. Huan will establish a multidisciplinary research program to further advance the analytical performance of mass spectrometry in metabolomics and bring metabolomics into systems biology to provide systems-level insight into the mechanisms of diseases. The recruitment of Dr. Huan is expected to further advance the department’s teaching and research in analytical mass spectrometry, and we welcome him to the department!
