Abstract:

The development of macrocyclic compounds has been a thriving area of research, specifically for contemporary applications like chemical sensors, catalysts, and nanoscopic machinery. At its core, this research field involves the design and synthesis of macrocycles, which can bind to other small molecules in highly selective and unique ways. Schiff-base macrocycles have been extensively studied by the maclachlan group over the last two decades and will be a cornerstone of my talk. I will discuss the diverse chemistry that can be achieved by utilizing schiff-base macrocycles, including (but not limited to) unique host-guest, self-assembly, cluster building, and liquid crystalline properties.
