Abstract:

Amine-functionalized polymers or amino-polyolefins (APOs) have penetrated the market due to their extensive use as CO2 capture membranes, water purification filters, compatibilizers, adhesives etc. Despite their wide-spread applications, their bulk-scale synthesis is often plagued by the nucleophilicity of the amine monomer, resulting in poor catalyst compatibility, and lack in molecular control. Therefore, the Schafer group has devised a 2-step synthetic protocol which not only addresses the polymerization challenges but also addresses the challenges associated with the synthesis of amino-monomers. This seminar will throw light on this 2-step pathway designed for bulk-scale synthesis of APOs. Finally, application of these polymers in energy-storage systems, and as corrosion protection materials will be discussed.
