CHARGE-TRANSFER BETWEEN AR AND MG IN AN INDUCTIVELY COUPLED PLASMA

Relative level population densities for several excited states of magnesium atom and ion have been measured at several RF powers and spatial positions. These were used to construct Saha-Boltzmann plots that show that the 2S and 2D levels of Mg+ are overpopulated relative to the results obtained from a simple collisional-radiative model. The degree of overpopulation has been rationalized using a simple model previously developed for Mg-Ar charge transfer.
