Abstract

Based on molecular mechanics, Yang photocyclization of alpha-1-norbornylacetophenone derivatives in the crystalline state was engineered through methylation adjacent to the carbonyl group, thus changing the conformation in the crystal and leading to enhanced diastereo- and enantioselectivity.
