Abstract

Nuclear magnetic resonance wide line and spin lattice relaxation time measurements on crystalline pyrene reveal a transition over the temperature range 255-285 degrees K. attributed to the reorientation of pyrene molecules about the axis perpendicular to the molecular plane. Activation energy for the molecular motion is 13.8 kcal mole(-1) from linewidth analysis and 13.5 kcal mole(-1) from T-1 measurements.
