Abstract

Photolysis of the title compound (1) produces a semibull-valene photoproduct dimethyl 3,8-diphenyl-2a,2b,8b,8c-tetrahydrocyclopropa[1’,2’,3’:3,3a,4]pentaleno[ 1,2-b]naphthalene-2a,8c-dicarboxylate (2) via a di-pi-methane rearrangement. The molecule of (2) contains a three-membered ring and has geometry and dimensions similar to those of related materials.
