Our Department

Internship/Research Collaboration Funding

The Department has a limited amount of funding that is designed to help graduate students travel to research opportunities such as internships or collaborative research efforts. Partial funding (up to a maximum of $1750) for students traveling outside of Vancouver can be obtained provided that equivalent matching funds are in place (these matching funds may be from company sponsors, supervisor's grants, or external travel grants).  As we only have limited funds available, we must restrict this funding to only one student per research group per year (i.e. you must confirm with your advisor that they support the application). Funding will be given out on a first come first served basis.

To apply, e-mail Sheri (secgrad@chem.ubc.ca) with the subject "Internship/research collaboration funding request". The e-mail should contain the following information:

  1. Brief details of internship/research collaboration opportunity (2-3 sentences)
  2. Amount of funding requested ($1750 maximum), and what funding is needed for.  Eligible costs include air travel and/or accommodation at site.
  3. Description of the matching funding that has been acquired, or applied for, to support the internship/research collaboration opportunity.
  4. A sentence confirming that you have consulted with your advisor and that they are supportive of your application (no one else can apply from your group in the same year).

After the funding has been approved and the travel is completed you will asked to provide receipts for the expenses to be reimbursed.  You may be asked to also provide copies of the receipts for the costs that were covered by the matching funds.
