Abstract:
The utilization of biomass as a source of fuels and chemicals provides a renewable alternative to fossil fuels. The catalytic reductive coupling of alcohols is one way that biomass-derived feedstocks can be upgraded to value-added chemicals. This presentation will detail new directions in the Schafer group, from initial exploration of 1,3-N,E-chelated vanadium complexes to their application as catalysts for the reductive coupling of alcohols. Staying true to Schafer group roots, group 4 catalysts for the atom-economic synthesis of amines will also be discussed.
