A Lecture with Nobel Laureate Dr. Akira Suzuki: You’re Invited!

The Chemistry Department is delighted to announce a special Lecture on March 21st, 2014 at 4:00 pm in B250 with our renowned guest, Dr. Akira Suzuki, Nobel Laureate. This event is part of the Consulate General of Japan in Vancouver 125th Anniversary Lecture Series and in association with our Department.

Dr. Akira Suzuki (Professor Emeritus at Hokkaido University in Japan) was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2010 for his work on Palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions, together with Richard F. Heck and Ei-ichi Negishi. Dr. Suzuki developed "Suzuki coupling," also known as the "Suzuki-Miyaura reaction" in 1981 with his colleague Norio Miyaura.

Lecture in Modern Chemistry Chair, Dr. Jennifer Love, talked about first finding out Dr. Suzuki would be visiting our department: “It’s very exciting for students to have the opportunity to attend a lecture given by a Nobel Laureate.  We leapt at the opportunity of being a part of the Japanese Consulate’s Lecture Series. It will really be inspirational, especially for all those who do research in our Department.”

We’ll see you there!
