Abstract:

Dr Elvira is the Canada Research Chair in New Materials and Techniques for Health Applications and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Victoria since 2017. Her group builds artificial cells and tissues from the bottom up using lab-on-a-chip (microfluidic) devices. They aim to use these in vitro models to better understand how drugs behave in vivo and to determine pharmacokinetic parameters. Dr Elvira has presented this work at the Gordon Research Conference on Drug Metabolism and is a Scientific Mentor for the Creative Destruction Lab.
