Polymer Supported Catalysis

Principal Investigator:

The radical-initiated copolymerization of MesP=CPh2 with styrene affords random copolymers with phosphorus contents that are proportional to the monomer feed ratio. This is an important breakthrough since it serves as a foundation upon which to build a large number of copolymers between phosphaalkenes and olefins. These functional copolymers are effective polymeric phosphine ligands for the [Pd]-catalyzed Suzuki coupling of aryl bromides with aryl boronic acids. The use of a supported catalysis facilitates the convenient separation of the product from the catalysis and permits the recycling of the catalysis.
