UBC Chemistry is ranked 19th in the world, according to the most recent QS World University Rankings report. The QS Rankings, published annually in October, evaluate universities around the globe based on six indicators including academic peer review, student to faculty ratio, and citations per faculty member, among others. The ranking currently evaluates more than 600 universities worldwide, and was first released in 2004.
Rounding out the Chemistry top three are Harvard, the University of California, Berkeley, and MIT. This is the first year that QS has published rankings by subject.
As of last year, QS ranked UBC 18th in the Natural Sciences. Also of note, UBC was ranked 24th in the Physical Sciences by the Times Higher Education Ranking for 2011-2012.
