Glenn Sammis awarded 2012-2013 Killam Teaching Prize

Congratulations to Dr. Glenn Sammis who was recently awarded a 2012-2013 UBC Killam Teaching Prize. UBC Killam Teaching Prizes are awarded annually, from the Killam Endowment Fund, to faculty nominated by students, colleagues, and alumni in recognition of excellence in teaching.

Congratulations to Sherry Zhao, who has received the Student Travel Grant to attend CE Pharm 2012.

Chang Liu receives 2013 ACD Graduate Student Award in Honour of Walter Harris

Congratulations to Chang Liu, a PhD Candidate in the Chen group, who has just received a 2013 Analytical Chemistry Division Graduate Student Award in Honour of Walter Harris. The award will be presented following an award lecture given by Liu at the 96th Canadian Chemistry Conference and Exhibition taking place in Quebec City from May 26-30th, 2013. Liu’s research is on the topic of novel continuous chemical purification platform development.

 

Marco Ciufolini awarded 2013 R. U. Lemieux Award

Congratulations to Professor Marco Ciufolini who was recently awarded the 2013 R. U. Lemieux Award. The award recognizes organic chemists who are working in Canada and who have made distinguished contributions to the fields of organic chemistry. Professor Ciufolini will be presented with this award at the 96th Canadian Chemistry Conference and Exhibition taking place in Quebec City from May 26-30th, 2013, where he will also present this work at in invited award lecture...

Mark MacLachlan awarded a 2012 Killam Award for Excellence in Mentoring

Congratulations to Professor Mark MacLachlan who was recently awarded a 2012 Killam Award for Excellence in Mentoring. The award recognizes research supervisors who have provided sustained mentorship to numerous graduate students while researching at the mid-career level. Furthermore, the Killam Award for Excellence in Mentoring is quite unique among other faculty awards, as statements provided by referees, such as past and present students, are highly regarded in the nomination process.

Roman Krems awarded the 2013 Keith Laidler Award

Gregory Dake awarded UBC “Sustainability Teaching & Learning Fellowship for 2012/13

Congratulations to Professor Gregory Dake who was recently awarded a UBC “Sustainability Teaching & Learning Fellowship” with the USI Teaching & Learning Office for the 2012/13 academic year. Michael Wolf awarded Peter Wall Major Thematic Grant

Professor Michael Wolf was recently awarded a Major Thematic Grant from the Peter Wall Institute for Advanced Studies. Dr. Wolf received the 5-year grant valued at $500,000 for the project “Nanomaterials for Alternative Energy Applications”.

Chemistry grad student wins Vanier scholarship

UBC Chemistry graduate student Léanne Racicot has won the prestigious Vanier scholarship for her work on the total synthesis of thiopeptides, a family of antibiotics with potent activity against drug-resistant pathogens.

Postdoc receives UBC Science Travel Award

Grad Student wins inaugural Edward Piers Memorial Award

Congratulations to graduate student Alexander Dauth, the first recipient of the Chemistry Department’s Edward Piers Memorial Award in Organic Chemistry. Alexander, a member of the Love group, is conducting research in the areas of organometallic chemistry and catalysis.

Grad Student wins Faculty of Science Achievement Award

Grad student wins Killam Doctoral Scholarship

Congratulations to PhD student Chad Atkins who has been awarded a Killam Doctoral Scholarship for the upcoming academic year. Chad has been working with Michael Blades and Robin Turner on a project that involves the study of storage lesions in red blood cells using Raman spectroscopy.
